The Outdoor Electrician Who Tells You What Your Project Actually Needs

Outdoor jobs are where estimates get padded — because you can't always tell what's underground, and scope is harder to verify. We'll tell you what's necessary, what's optional, and what can wait. Same as we do inside.

"They came out to check out my breaker box & luckily it was ok. I was so impressed with them I had them back to install a couple outside outlets that my wife had been asking for & they did an excellent job! Very professional, fair price, on time & left the job cleaner than it was — thank you again!"

What we do outside your home

Seven things we handle outside your home

Outdoor power & lighting

A dead outdoor outlet is usually a tripped GFCI somewhere upstream — David checks the circuit path before assuming you need a new outlet. Outdoor receptacles require weatherproof covers and GFCI protection at all times (NEC code, no exceptions). If yours are missing covers, corroded, or dead, we'll diagnose the cause rather than just replacing hardware. We also install new circuits for patios, garages, detached buildings, and pool areas where there's currently no power.

Before any fixtures go up, David checks available panel circuits and maps the wiring path — surprises found mid-job add cost, and we'd rather find them first. We install porch fixtures, flood lights, motion-sensor security lighting, and landscape lighting runs. If you're not sure what type of fixture works best for your property layout, we'll walk through the options on site with no pressure to decide on the first visit.

Hardwired doorbells are straightforward to install but easy to get wrong — the transformer rating has to match the chime, and many older homes have undersized transformers causing weak or absent rings. We install and repair traditional hardwired doorbells, replace failing transformers, and run low-voltage wiring for video doorbells that require a dedicated power supply. If your doorbell has been unreliable for years, the fix is usually inexpensive.

Service & infrastructure

Exterior panel work often gets quoted as a full replacement when a partial upgrade would do the job — David evaluates what's actually required before anything gets proposed. Meter socket damage, failing disconnects, and outdoor sub-panel installations for garages, sheds, or pools are calls we handle regularly. When a full service upgrade is genuinely needed, we pull permits, coordinate with the utility, and manage the process start to finish.

Running power to a detached garage, outbuilding, or outdoor service area requires buried conduit at the right depth — 12 inches for rigid metal conduit, 24 inches for PVC, depending on what's inside. Poor depth and wrong conduit type are the most common exterior electrical mistakes we see from other contractors. We dig, run conduit, pull wire, and restore the yard as close to original as possible. All underground work is permitted and inspected.

Major installs

A transfer switch lets a generator power your home without backfeeding electricity into the utility lines — which can electrocute lineworkers and damage your equipment. It's not optional if you're connecting a generator to your panel. David installs manual and automatic transfer switches for portable and whole-home standby generators, and sizes the circuit to match your actual load rather than guessing high. We also handle generator installation and repair.

Most Level 2 home chargers (the 240V kind that charge overnight) need a dedicated 40–50 amp circuit. David verifies your panel has the capacity before recommending a breaker size — if your panel is too full, we'll tell you before you buy the charger, not after. We handle the permit, circuit run, and charger mounting. For full details including hot tub wiring on the same service call, see our EV Chargers & Hot Tubs page.

Excellent job!! They ran a new electrical line from my house to my garage. There was a large tree there and they did a good job digging through all those left over roots from the tree that was cut down to run an electrical line underground. Will be calling them back soon again.
